Volunteering

Volunteering is a good alternative to paid employment. You will meet new people, might learn the language, get to establish a network, contribute to a good cause, get to know more about Dutch society, and gain working experience here, which may help you on your way to paid work.

A volunteer is called 'vrijwilliger' in Dutch. The Vrijwilligerscentrale Nijmegen Foundation takes care of administration, gives advice and information on rules and regulations, and support for volunteers and voluntary organisations. Its (Dutch only) website gives an overview of vacancies, volunteer projects at www.vwc-nijmegen.nl.
