The municipality of Nijmegen
The city of Nijmegen is run by the bench of Mayor and City Aldermen and the city council. The bench consists of six Aldermen and the Mayor.
The city council is the highest civil administration and consists of 39 members who represent 10 political parties. These members are chosen by the citizens of Nijmegen and are responsible for defining the scope of municipal policy and monitoring the execution of tasks by the bench of Mayor & Aldermen. The officials in the municipal administration support the bench and the city council; they make the city’s policy and coordinate the implementation of plans, projects and regulations.
The City Counter or 'Stadswinkel' offers the citizens of Nijmegen a range of municipal services and products, such as issuing passports or driving licences and levying taxes. Citizens can also go there for questions about licences or for free social and legal advice.
