Nijmegen is situated in the east of the Netherlands, close to the German border and 56 kilometres from Airport Weeze. Due to its unique position on a lateral moraine on the River Waal, it has been a favourite location for residents and visitors for 2,000 years, in fact since the age of the Batavians and Romans. This makes Nijmegen the oldest city in the Netherlands.

In Nijmegen, past and present are intertwined. You can experience it for yourself. Like the Romans, high up in Valkhofpark you can admire the Dutch river landscape stretching out before you. The city is surrounded by a wonderfully varied natural environment of woods, moors, water, hills and extensive polders with meandering dykes.
