What's happening in Nijmegen?
Being a typical student city, Nijmegen has a lively nightlife. Not only on week-ends, but every day of the week!
The wide range of bars, pavement cafés, night clubs, pubs and restaurants offering international cuisine provide something for everyone. Thursday is 'student night' in town, with special parties en offers for students, but in most bars other guests are just as welcome.
Larger concentrations of bars, pavement cafés and restaurants can be found in the city centre at and around the Molenstraat, Koningsplein (picture), Grote Markt and Waalkade. In various neighbourhoods near the centre, such as Bottendaal (Burghard v.d. Berghstraat) and Oost (Daalseweg, Van 't Santstraat), popular restaurants and bars can be found.
Dance club The Matrixx (outside the city centre) attracts partygoers from all over the country and popular international DJs. Nightclub Doornroosje presents concerts by hot and upcoming bands and various types of dance parties.
Besides the Stadsschouwburg (city theatre) and the beautifully renovated Vereeniging (concert hall, 1915), there are many smaller stages offering a wide variety of modern theatre and music, as well as facilities for all kinds of social gatherings. In addition to two large mainstream cinemas, there is also LUX, where international and art house film productions are shown.
