Nijmegen on foot

Nijmegen is probably the most famous city for walking in the world because of its International Four Days Marches. Every year in the third week of July, tens of thousands of people walk between 30 and 50 kilometres a day through Nijmegen and its lovely surroundings. All year round, Nijmegen’s Tourist Office offers guides describing country walks of various lengths. Less experienced walkers might be more interested in a (short) city walk.

Vierdaagse marsen

Visiting Nijmegen for the first time? Then we suggest our free 'Meeting Mariken' city walk. This is not a tour of all the major sights, but more of a guide which allows you to explore Nijmegen in your own way.

Wandelen in de heuvels rond NijmegenNijmegen Tourist Office provides a wide range of guides describing city walks past interesting shops, towers or historical buildings, for example.

Groups of 4 people or more can book guided city or nature walks from Gilde Nijmegen in Dutch, English, French or German. More information: website Gilde (Dutch only) or call+ 31- 24-3603635, Monday and Friday between 2.00 p.m. and 4.00 p.m.
