Daytrips across the country

Tulip field and windmill in the north of the NetherlandsNijmegen has many attractions, things to do and places to see. With distances being relatively small in the Netherlands, most other places of interest can easily be reached on day trips. Amsterdam, for example, is only 120 kilometres away. And Nijmegen is situated near the German border, so we have included some German attractions too.

Here are some suggestions for exploring Holland's hotspots.

  • Arnhem, capital of the province of Gelderland and city of fashion, culture and sports. About 18 km away.
  • Burgers' Zoo in Arnhem
  • Dutch Open Air Museum in Arnhem
  • National Park De Hoge Veluwe, one of the Netherlands' oldest and largest national parks. It consists of 5,500 hectares of woodland, moors, lakes and dunes and features the Kroller-Muller Museum (third most important collection of art in the Netherlands) and sculpture garden. About 50 km away.
  • Grave, a small village with historic city walls, a few kilometres from Nijmegen
  • the Burgundian city of 's-Hertogenbosch

  • Keukenhof, a large spring garden famous for its tulips
  • Kinderdijk, UNESCO World Heritage, a conservation area for windmills
  • the countryside in the province of North Brabant and its capital Eindhoven
  • Maastricht, southern Dutch city full of culture, style and gastronomy
  • Amsterdam, capital of the Netherlands with its historic buildings and canals, Van Gogh Museum, Anne Frank house, Rijksmuseum
