You can also order a taxi by phone at the national public transport information number 0900-9292. If your destination is located in the pedestrian zone in the city centre, please ask your driver in advance if he is allowed to enter this area, as not all taxi-companies are licensed.
The price of your taxi ride is determined by a start-off rate (different for day and night time) plus a rate per kilometre (both maximised by the government). The accumulating price is shown on a meter during your ride. To avoid surprises, ask the driver to give you an estimate of the price of your ride in advance. Compared to what you're used to in some other countries, you might not find Dutch taxies very cheap.
